A single-storey rancher immersed in the forest with views of Wedge Mountain
One of the first homes built in WedgeWoods, Whistler, this 4,500 sq ft single-storey rancher is immersed in the forest with views of Wedge Mountain. Sun-drenched interiors and strong indoor-outdoor connections create a true sense of living within nature — exactly the kind of home that draws people to Whistler in the first place.
The single-storey design was an intentional choice. By keeping everything on one level, the home spreads across its lot in a way that maximizes contact with the surrounding landscape. Floor-to-ceiling windows pull the forest inside, and the layout creates natural sightlines from one end of the home to the other. There are no wasted hallways or disconnected rooms — every space earns its place.
Maya Wassenberg designed the architecture to sit quietly within its setting, and Balmoral Construction brought that vision to life with the kind of precision that a 4,500 sq ft single-storey demands. Long roof lines, carefully detailed transitions between materials, and a foundation that works with the natural grade of the lot — these are the details that separate a custom build from a production home.
Inside, Britt Lothrop created interiors that feel warm and lived-in without sacrificing the clean lines of the architecture. Natural materials dominate — stone, wood, and glass — and the millwork by Blueprint adds a layer of craftsmanship that ties everything together. Wedgewoods is not a showpiece. It is a home built for the way people actually live in the mountains, and it does that exceptionally well.
