On our Whistler renovations page we publish kitchen renovations at $75,000 to $200,000+. This post is the breakdown behind that range, for 2026, from jobs we actually run in the corridor.
The range, in plain terms
Keep the layout, replace millwork and counters, update lighting and appliances: you are in the lower half. Open a wall, move the sink, add a pantry, and specify full custom millwork in a large house: you are in the upper half or past it. Steam ovens, imported stone, and structural steel are how kitchens leave the published band.
What moves the number
Millwork. Cabinets, island, tall storage. This is usually the largest cheque. Shops we already use on Whistler houses (including Blueprint and Mountain Design on published projects) are not a big-box lead time.
Layout. Every relocated drain is a plumber, an inspection, and often a floor repair. It is worth it when the old kitchen fights the way you cook. It is waste when it is only a drawing preference.
Mountain logistics. Crane days, winter roads, and a millwork crate that misses the ferry window. We price that in. A Lower Mainland quote that ignores it is not cheaper. It is incomplete.
Permits. RMOW building permits apply to most kitchens that touch plumbing or electrical. Time is money if a rental listing is waiting.
How long
On site, 8 to 12 weeks is typical, plus permit lead. Shoulder season is kinder if the house earns winter rent. Read the Whistler kitchen page for scope, and the custom home cost guide if you are deciding renovate versus rebuild.
How we estimate
We walk the room. We do not email a per-square-foot kitchen number from a photo. Bring the year the house was built, whether it rents, and whether the wall you want gone is load-bearing. We will tell you.
